The Truth About eSIM Support in Egypt’s Mobile Networks (Updated August 2025)

Last updated: August 2025

Egypt’s mobile landscape is evolving quickly, and eSIM technology is becoming more mainstream. Just a couple of years ago, most carriers had limited or no support for eSIM, but now all four major operators — Vodafone Egypt, Orange Egypt, Etisalat Misr, and WE (Telecom Egypt) — have rolled out official eSIM services.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM that’s embedded in your device. It lets you activate a mobile plan without inserting a physical SIM card. For Egyptians, this means easier switching between plans, better travel options, and more flexibility for dual SIM usage.

How to Activate an eSIM in Egypt

  1. Check if your phone supports eSIM (Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan).
  2. Visit your carrier’s branch or use their app to request an eSIM.
  3. Verify your identity with your national ID/passport.
  4. Receive and scan the QR code provided by your carrier.
  5. Restart your device and confirm that your plan is active.

Pricing & Fees

As of August 2025, eSIM service fees vary slightly between carriers. WE, for example, charges approximately LE330 for a new eSIM and LE270 for swapping from a physical SIM. Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat have similar charges, often waived during promotions.

Benefits of eSIM for Egyptian Users

  • No need to handle or store tiny physical SIM cards.
  • Ability to use multiple numbers on one device (dual SIM).
  • Easier switching between local and international plans.
  • Travelers can buy and activate roaming eSIMs without visiting a store.

Potential Drawbacks

  • Not all devices in Egypt are eSIM-compatible yet.
  • Switching devices still requires contacting your carrier for reactivation.
  • Some budget Android models may never support eSIM.

Future of eSIM in Egypt

With all four major carriers now on board, Egypt is moving towards wider adoption. Within the next 3–5 years, we can expect most mid-range and premium phones to be sold with eSIM support by default.

Disclaimer: Carrier details, prices, and compatibility may change. Always verify with your mobile provider before switching to eSIM.
